Nagaland Headhunter Necklace

Throughout the 18th and into the early 20th centuries, the Naga gained notoriety for being active "Headhunters". The men of the Naga tribes would bring back enemy heads to their village where it was believed to bring a successful harvest, prosperity for the tribe, and protection from misfortune. Tribesmen would adorn themselves wearing these necklaces with various bronze heads to show how many heads they had removed, a symbolism of their strength and honor in the community. Sold individually.
