Chilean Mapuche Necklace

$ 395

The Mapuche people inhabit what is now Chile and Argentina. The vernacular of the traditional silver jewelry is very rich as each family had its own totemic images, and the wealthy families had their own silversmiths. The last Mapuche silversmith stopped working in the 1940s and more delicate pieces, like this necklace, have brought life to the tradition. This necklace features horses, birds and humans, comingling on an airy necklace on a handcrafted box chain.
